Guardian of the Estate

Definition

A Guardian of the Estate is an example of a limited Guardian responsible for the ward’s financial affairs.

Example responsibilities include

  • managing the ward’s income, assets, and property;
  • paying bills and taxes;
  • making investment decisions; and
  • providing detailed accounts to the court when needed.

Terminology involving conservatorship and guardianship vary by jurisdiction. As a result, a Guardian of the Estate may be called a Conservator or Conservator of Estate in your area.
